Onion Soup

Onion soup is a symbol of fine French cuisine. For the complete “French feeling”, serve it with grilled cheese on toast.

Ingredients

50 g butter
500 g onion, finely chopped
10 g sugar
20 g flour
1 pinch thyme, chopped
1 teaspoon Vegeta Beef Stock Powder
1 pinch pepper, grounded
1,4 l water
200 ml dry, white wine
For serving:
6 slices of toast
6 slices cheese
½ tablespoons parsley, chopped

Preparation

  1. In a pan, heat the butter and on mild heat cook the onion for about 10 minutes.
  2. Sprinkle with sugar and continue braising until it softens.
  3. Add flour, thyme, Vegeta Beef Stock Powder, pepper and cover with water. Cook for 15 minutes.
  4. Add the wine and bring to boil.
  5. Toast the bread, top with cheese and place under the grill until cheese melts.

Serving

Serve the soup with toast and sprinkle with parsley.

Tip

Serve the soup in smaller bowls. Another option to melt the cheese, is to place the toast on top of the bowls, followed by the cheese slice and warm up in preheated oven on high temperature. Cook until the cheese melts.
