Consumed at any time of the day, but enjoyed mostly between meals as a snack from home, or intended to be prepared in a hurry to satisfy the hunger.

Panic has broken out among sandwiches: a new trend is spreading around the world threatening to remove them from the scene of quick snacks! The name is the wrap!

A lifetime of thick slices of bread is coming to an end; thin fajitas are the new and healthy young forces!

Many fast food restaurants offer them ready made, but can easily be made at home; that way you are sure they contain everything you want. What can be used in a "wrap"? Anything round or angular, flat, flexible and of course, edible!

Another convenience is that wraps are for absolutely everybody: whether talking about preparing or consuming. Everyone, even children, can easily find their own combination and favourite preparation.

Wraps can be any type of rolls: salty, sweet, smaller, larger, low calorie or fattier, filled with various spreads, vegetables, mushrooms, rice, meat, cheese, fruit.....

It can be eaten at any time of day, but they are best between meals as snacks, taken from home or when want to quickly prepare something to satisfy the hunger.

If you have never made a wrap, or you want to "upgrade" plain pancakes or tortillas, here is some advice:

  • When making "wraps" prepare more and freeze the rest. When you want them again on your menu, just briefly throw them on a hot pan.
  • Fillings can also be prepared in advance. Guacamole (avocado sauce) prepared at home can be kept in the fridge for a couple of days, just like spreads made from button mushrooms or lentils. Slice fresh vegetables and encourage children to wrap their own healthy lunch.
  • The process of filling and wrapping is as follows: put the filling on the lower half of the wrap (best shape is a triangle upside down) and leave a few centimetres from the edge empty. Fold the left and right edges so they meet in the middle and roll upwards.
  • If you serve the wrap on a plate, top it with sauce and you will get an even juicier delight.

What can be used in a "wrap"? Anything round or angular, flat, flexible and of course, edible! This can be tortillas in various combinations: quesadillas (filled and roasted or baked), fajitas (filled with meat), burritos (with meat, rice or beans) and tacos (filled with all possible ingredients), pita bread (shallow bread that needs filling), sweet and salty pancakes, lettuce leaves and much more.

Some filling tips:

  • Omelettes, fritters, diced boiled eggs with supplements
  • Beans, lentils and other legumes seasoned with garlic, chilli peppers, caraway seed, relish ...
  • Avocado salad and shrimps
  • Season salad with creamy dressing
  • Grilled vegetables
  • Grated cheese with salsa
